The ability of Summerlanders to call 911 from landlines has been jeopardized by a rampage of vandalism affecting internet and television equipment in the community. Police say they have been responding to complaints from utility providers over the past four weeks about “bad” internet and television equipment. The vandalism has caused damage of more than $ 10,000 and at times has prevented landlines from calling 911 until repairs are completed. Const. Dayne Lyons tells Castanet that the local 911 system is fully operational at the moment, but the vandalism continues. He could not say whether the telecommunications equipment was specifically targeted, but noted that the suspects appear to have intended to destroy the equipment instead of stealing it. “Summerland RCMP is seeking public assistance for any information that may lead to the location of a suspect,” Cpl said. Sean Hall of Summerland RCMP. “The maintenance and operation of the 911 lines is our # 1 priority.” If you have information, we encourage you to call RCMP Summerland at 250-494-7416.
