Police have released a dramatic video of a violent robbery at a Gucci store in central Vancouver.

The robbery took place on December 9, shortly after 7 pm, when two masked men entered the luxury luxury store near Thurlow and Alberni streets. The men used bear spray on an employee, then ransacked the store and arrived with merchandise worth about $ 20,000 in seconds, police said. The robbery was “quite brazen,” said spokeswoman Const. Tanya Vishindin. “They were there for a purpose and they had a quick job to do.” Four officers, including a disabled 33-year-old guard, hid on a ladder until the men left. After the robbery, they were treated by paramedical staff. On Wednesday, police released a video that captured the ongoing robbery. It showed two masked men – one wearing a hooded jacket and the other wearing a black reflective hooded jacket – entering the store. One of them could be seen using a spray as a security guard pulled back.

One of the men started taking many wallets off the shelves on the floor, while the other picked them up. The other man also grabbed two other wallets as they left. The video later showed the men in an alley and coming out of an emergency exit. Visintin said the men removed their disguises after leaving the store and their faces were recorded by a nearby security camera. Although police obtained the security plans from the operation earlier in the investigation, they did not release them for “specific investigative reasons,” Visintin said. He declined to give further details, saying only that police were now in a “good spot” and could publish the men’s footage.
