Peel District Police said the investigation into the group believed to be involved in a series of theft and fraud incidents in southern Ontario began in November 2021.
With the help of other provincial police services and the Canadian Border Service, the five-month investigation led to the execution of search warrants at several homes in the Peel area on Tuesday.
“As a result, a significant amount of property from various retail stores was located in all homes,” police said, adding that the value of the items recovered exceeded $ 80,000.
Twelve people, including four teenagers, have been charged in connection with the investigation.
One of the defendants, 43-year-old Ingrid Stojkova, faces 13 charges – six counts of theft under $ 5,000, two counts of breach of identity, two counts of non-compliance with suspension, two counts of non-compliance with a business, three counts of failure to stay at the scene of the accident and four driving charges while suspended.
Police said they are also wanted with 13 additional warrants from unrelated incidents.
“Successful completion of this complex investigation would not have been possible without the cooperation of law enforcement partners and the assistance of our community stakeholders, both public and private,” said Marc Andrews, Peel’s deputy chief of police.
“It’s another example of our commitment to the safety and well-being of the community.”
