A suspect has been arrested in connection with the cold-blooded case of an Ottawa woman who was murdered in Arizona in 2005. Stacey Childs, 60, was arrested in Santa Cruz, California, on Tuesday for second-degree murder in the death of Dr. Barbara Calloway. Calloway was a 45-year-old veterinarian with the Canadian Food and Drug Administration who was vacationing alone and staying at a motel in Lake Havasu, Ariz. After noticing that Callow’s car had left its spot at the Windsor Inn, a maid entered the room on the morning of April 5 and discovered Callow’s body, three days after she had checked in. Police found Kalow’s 2005 PT Cruiser parked on a freeway two hours from her motel. The autopsy showed that he died of suffocation by force.
DNA helps in the investigation
In 2018, the Lake Havaso Police Department began re-investigating the case full-time, according to a press release issued by the force. Through this research, the DNA results provided the necessary possible cause for a child arrest warrant. Lake Havaso police, along with local police in Santa Cruz, arrested Childs on Tuesday morning and he is currently being held in Santa Cruz County Jail awaiting extradition to Arizona.
