The announcement is expected to be made on Friday by Prime Minister Justin Trinto and Quebec Prime Minister François Lego, Radio Canada confirmed. The new facility will include a research center and an mRNA vaccine production unit, according to an agreement finalized last summer. The plant will produce about 30 million doses per year and the company will employ from 200 to 300 people. The exact location of the new plant, which is due to be completed in 2024, has not yet been determined and is still under negotiation, but Radio-Canada has confirmed that it will be located in the greater Montreal area. Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel had said he did not want to rush the decision, saying it had to be done diligently. “You have to understand that these are not decisions for six months, one or two years, but they are a decision for 20, 30 or 40 years,” he said. “It is very important to do it in a place where we have the right level of talent, to become Moderna employees.” Since the pandemic began, the Trinto government has promised to bring Canada’s manufacturing industry back on its feet. To date, Ottawa has invested $ 1.6 billion in approximately 30 biodegradable projects, vaccines and treatments. When Trudeau and Legault work together to make the announcement, they are expected to be surrounded by a number of provincial and federal ministers.
