A veteran Sudbury OPP officer faces criminal charges in connection with assets seized from a treasury of evidence in the Sudbury squad. Sgt. Sudbury’s Straun Frederiksen was charged April 26 with the criminal code for theft and breach of trust. He was charged by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Professional Standards Unit (PSU). A search by the Professional Standards Unit, part of OPP’s Office of Professionalism, Respect, Integration and Leadership, began in 2021 after it was found that items had been lost from the evidence cabinet in the Sudbury section. The police have not stated what kind of information the policeman allegedly got. Defendant was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court in Sudbury on May 25. The officer has been a member of the IPP for 27 years. He has been suspended from salary, in accordance with the terms of the Law on Police Services, since March this year, a press release said.
