The director of photography died when a gun held by Baldwin was unloaded during rehearsals for the Western film in New Mexico in October 2021. Footage released by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office shows Baldwin sitting with two deputies as one told him, “I have some very unfortunate news to tell you. He did not succeed.” The 64-year-old actor said “No!” before he puts his hand in his mouth and sits silent. The MP then explained that the film’s director Joel Souza, who was injured on set, was still in hospital. Baldwin then put his hand on his chest as the MP repeated the news that Mrs Hutchins “did not make it”, before adding: “I did not want to hear it out of here”. When asked if MPs could do anything about him, Baldwin said he wanted to call his wife before leaving the room with his hand on his forehead. The video was released as the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said “disturbing” information was found in text messages during the search for the deadly shot. Sheriff Adan Mendoza said the messages discussed the possible use of real ammunition in a different film, a few months before production began in Rust. The department recently released all records related to its ongoing shooting investigation, including videos of Baldwin practicing with a revolver. Speaking to Sky NBC’s American partner, Sheriff Mendoza said: “There was complacency on the set, there was disorganization and a degree of negligence, whether it goes to a criminal level that will depend on the district attorney. Baldwin continues to fight for a number of lawsuits arising from the incident. Assumptions are being made by screenwriter Mamie Mitchell, lighting chief Serge Svetnoy and Mrs. Hutchins’s family.
