The Phoenix Police Department released shocking footage from the body camera of an April 14 shooting that left a 40-year-old female police officer injured. The shootings took place at a gas station near Cave Creek and Beardsley Road. The police responded to a call for domestic violence and met a woman there, because she told them that she did not feel comfortable meeting police at her house. Phoenix Police Body Camera Shots. (Phoenix PD) In a 911 phone call released by police, the woman told police that her boyfriend, 35-year-old Nicholas Cowan, had committed suicide and was behaving erratically. He feared there would be a violent clash if police officers showed up where they were. In the video of the body camera, the police officers seem to be interviewing a woman when a blue Prius gets up. The female officer, identified as Denise Bruce-Jones, approaches the car and is shot, falling backwards. At the side, her partner responds to the fire in the Prius as it moves away quickly. Shots are seen hitting the walls and windows of the store. He was arrested in Scottsdale after a roadblock on April 17. On Thursday, police announced the arrest of 41-year-old Michael Hankins, who allegedly helped Cowan while he was on the run. Police said in a statement the possible cause was that Hankins allowed Cowan to stay in his apartment for two nights before renting a house in Scottsdale for the fugitive. It was not immediately clear if Hankins had a lawyer who could comment on his behalf.
