An Ohio school board voted to reprimand a member and demanded his resignation after he accidentally posted a link to a porn site on a public Facebook post. Earlier this week, Lakota School Board member Darbi Boddy, who campaigned as an ardent opponent of critical race theory, posted on her public Facebook page in response to the board weighing in on curriculum revisions for area. In the post, Boddy complained that the school district hired a company to review its curriculum without ensuring that the board and the company understood the CRT. He continued in the post to oppose sex education issues that he claims are already in Ohio schools. Included links to content “about masturbation, sex toys, anything other than abstinence.” However, one of the links had an error, redirecting those who clicked to a site that contained pornographic material instead of the sex education site that it intended to include. Boddy responded to the typographical error in a subsequent post Wednesday with the correct link. “One of the pornographic sites that came into contact with me as part of my list of what to look for in our schools was a typo, and although it was not intended to be part of my communication, it is still representative of the disgusting material that is posted. in front of our children “, he wrote. Later Wednesday, the Lakota School Board convened an emergency meeting and decided by a 4-1 vote to reprimand Bodie, who was the only one who disagreed with the vote. The body approved a separate proposal with 4-0 votes demanding its immediate resignation. Ohio school committees do not have the capacity to remove members from the panel. “Posting pornographic content on an official, public school board account, which many of our students can access, is completely unacceptable,” council chairwoman Lynda O’Connor said Wednesday night, according to local news agency WXIX agency. “Furthermore, to publicly accuse our curriculum of containing such pornographic material is sad.” “You have exposed our community, including potential children, to inappropriate sexual content,” O’Connor continued. “In trying to raise awareness of what we need to keep out of our schools, the way you communicate has placed it directly in our school community. Your behavior was fundamentally wrong and we expect you to take responsibility.” Bodi left in the middle of the meeting, saying: “I will not be part of this political trick”. On Thursday, Boddy posted another statement about the incident on Facebook, saying “it’s not going to apologize for uploading these sites and I do not regret uploading them.” “Light must shine on this material,” he wrote. “I urge the community to look at them and ask if you want to know if they are at your school or not.” Prior to the Facebook typo, the Lakota School Board had previously faced calls for Bodie to be reprimanded “for her continuing disrespect and aggression” against Lakota Superintendent Matt Miller in a petition that garnered more than 1,600 signatures on Thursday. “Ms. Bodie’s statements and conduct undermine confidence in the leadership of the District at the Board level,” the report said. “Furthermore, in her words and statements she underestimates the integrity of all Lakota staff. This behavior should not be tolerated and should not be continued. We demand that steps be taken to characterize this behavior as completely inappropriate.” O’Connor and Boddy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
