Around 22:30 on Wednesday, the RCMP responded to a report from a pedestrian walking on Highway 104, most likely in traffic. While patrolling the area, the RCMP says one of its officers hit the pedestrian with his police vehicle. The pedestrian, a 22-year-old Antigone, was pronounced dead at the scene. An RCMP Conflict Reconstruction Technician and RCMP Forensics were present at the scene. The Antigonish County RCMP has contacted the New Scotland Serious Disaster Management Team (SiRT), which has undertaken the investigation. On Thursday, around 9:30 a.m., the RCMP says a man went to the Pictou Squad to report that he was in a collision on Highway 104 in the Addington Forks on Wednesday night. The man told the RCMP that he hit an unknown object on the highway and, after learning of the pedestrian’s death at night, decided to report his collision to the RCMP for further investigation. RCMP and SiRT researchers are working to determine if the two collisions are related. The RCMP says that SiRT is leading the investigation into the collision between the RCMP vehicle and the victim and that the police will not provide further details. SiRT is responsible for investigating all serious police incidents in Nova Scotia.
