Alfonso Hamilton, 50, was arrested Wednesday morning after being turned over to the Schiller Park Police Department, police said. Authorities say he was identified as the man who earlier shot and killed his wife, 47-year-old Jennifer Hamilton. He has been charged with first-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday. Jennifer Hamilton was outside a Target store on the 6500-square-foot West Diversey Avenue in Brickyard when she was shot several times just before 9:30 a.m. Police said her murder was an act of domestic violence. Jennifer Hamilton lived right across from the parking lot where she was killed. Neighbors said he was in the process of moving. “It’s heartbreaking for a woman to be killed and we feel she could have been prevented,” said Ward Ald, 36. Gilbert Villegas. “It is tragic, because there were indications and hints that this violence was happening.” On Thursday, Hamilton was remembered by her colleagues at the SEIU in a wake-up call for Chicago union workers who lost their lives. Hamilton worked as a mental health professional at Cermak Hospital in Cook County Jail. She was a flight attendant of SEUI 73 and very much loved by her colleagues. The president of her union issued a statement saying: “Our union is devastated by the tragic loss of our beloved member and trade unionist Jennifer Hamilton … Jennifer had a genuine passion for her work in mental health. When you spoke “With her, you understood her commitment to providing the best possible care to her patients, before and throughout the pandemic.” Copyright © 2022 WLS-TV. All rights reserved.
