The Pembina Trails school said Wednesday that the teacher was hit while in class a day earlier at Shaftesbury High School and immediately called for help. A student who the department says brought a hammer to school was escorted to the office and sent home after notifying the student’s parents. Police said they were investigating, but no arrests had been made. A school social worker offered support to the students. “We know that seeing a violent incident can cause trauma and feelings of anxiety, worry, anger. These feelings are normal. “Please be aware that counselors (Pembina Trails) are available to support students,” the department said in a statement sent to parents, guardians and students. He said students in nearby classrooms heard a commotion and were instructed by teachers to take “appropriate measures to stay safe”. Police confirmed that they had responded to reports that a high school staff member had been attacked. The officers stationed at the school were on standby to defuse the situation and remove the student before the general patrol officers responded. Police said the teacher refused medical help.
