Points: Round 1 • Round 2 • Round 3 • Round 4 • Round 5 • Round 6 • Round 7
1. Jaguar: Travon Walker, EDGE, Georgia
Grade: B- This is purely projection. They need help, but it plays more like a 5-down technique. He is a good player, a tough player, a physical player, but he is not an explosive rush. They can combine him with Josh Allen, but here I would have been aggressive.
2. Lions: Aidan Hutchinson, EDGE, Michigan
Grade: B + They need to rush through in the worst possible way and they should be excited that Hutchinson fell for them here. He is a polished limb rapist who will play right away. The Lions must be able to influence the general better than they did last year. Hutchinson will do that. But he can be a guy with 12 sacks for most of his career, rather than a guy with 16 sacks. But that’s okay.
3. Texans: Derek Stingley Jr., CB, LSU
Degree: B This does not make much sense to me. They play a defense that does not make a premium in the corner, however they chose an over pass rusher. Stingley is a great cover corner, but that’s a little weird. Pass rusher or tackle was a better choice.
4. Jets: Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, CB, Cincinnati
Grade: B + If you want to win the AFC East, you have to stop Bills and Josh Allen. This means that the corners of the cover are top notch. Gardner is the best player in the draft in the draft. That should mean more people for Robert Saleh and the crew. Good choice.
5. Giants: Kayvon Thibodeaux, EDGE, Oregon
Grade A. He is the best clean passer in this draft. It has the explosive ability that the Giants need. The question with him now is his character. Does he like the game? But I think he will overcome any of these discussions and become a dominant player at the forefront. I love this option.
6. Panthers: Ikem Ekwonu, OT, NC State
Grade: B + The Panthers played spinning tops on the left tackle last year, so getting a tackle was unlikely in this draft. I liked Evan Neal better, but I have that choice. Ekwonu needs to work towards protecting his pass, but it can be corrected.
7. Giants: Evan Neil, OT, Alabama
Grade A. The Giants have the best tackle in the draft. He will get in the right tackle and give them a nice pair of libraries with Andrew Thomas. They need to better protect the general, and they will. It will be a long term key that goes into many Pro Bowls.
8. Falcons: Drake London, WR, USC
Grade: B- London is a big receiver, but it is not running so well. This is a team that needed to add more speed. I would have picked Garrett Wilson at this point. It would have given them a more immediate impact. London is good. But there were better options.
9. Seahawks: Charles Cross, OT, Mississippi St.
Degree: B They had a glaring hole in the left tackle, so they had to get a left tackle. Running on them, they end up with a player who is good at protecting the pass, but needs work in the run game. If Seattle wants to run better, they chose the wrong tackle. But he is good at protecting the fourth.
10. Jet: Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio St.
Grade A. I love this option. I know there was talk of exchanging this option to get Deebo Samuel, but I like staying in my place and getting Wilson. He is a speed player who will help Zach Wilson a lot. He is fast and will be much cheaper than Samuel.
11. Saints (from Commanders): Chris Olave, WR, Ohio St.
Grade: C + Leaving all this arsenal to acquire Olave is dangerous if you ask me. Olave is a speed receiver that will complement Michael Thomas, but we have to give up a lot to get him. James Winston will be happy, but I do not like that. The Saints must.
12. Lions (from Vikings): Jameson Williams, WR, Alabama
Degree: B This is the best receiver in the draft. Lions can expect to make him healthy. When he is healthy, he will be a dynamic playmaker. They made a bold move to go get him, but left a pile to get him. Better to hope that is what they think can be done. I think he is a star.
13. Eagles (from Texans): Jordan Davis, DT, Georgia
Degree: B This is a good choice for the Eagles. They had to put a power player in with age becoming a problem there. Davis will be a player with three down in the NFL, even if some believe he will not be. The Eagles will be much better at running – that’s for sure.
14. Ravens: Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame
Grade: B- The Ravens will get a player who will help them finish right away. I like Hamilton, but I do not love him like most. He will have some problems in coverage, but they have to use him in various ways to take advantage of his talents. It’s not Ed Reed. This is certain.
15. Texans (from Eagles): Kenyon Green, G, Texas A&M
Grade: B + They get a player who can play the right tackle or on guard. This is a team that needs a lot of help and Green is a player who can come in and play right away. He is a good, natural player who fits in with what they want to do if he plays the right tackle or guard.
16. Commanders (from Saints): Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn St.
Degree: B They exchange and land a receiver that will give them more juice in the passing game. They needed to help Carson Wentz and Dotson would give them another speed player. Landing the extra pieces and getting a good receiver makes this a good move.
17. Chargers: Zion Johnson, G, Boston College
Grade: B + They must protect their general. This is a player who can play guard, tackle, center for the Chargers. That was to improve their line for Justin Herbert. I love Johnson. The flexibility of the position is important. He brings it.
18. Titans (by the Eagles) Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas
Grade: C + They essentially traded a large, physical receiver to replace AJ Brown. Berks will come much cheaper. However, I’m not sure it’s AJ Brown. But philosophy makes sense. Draft and get a cheaper player. Berks must keep his weight a little low.
19. Saints: Trevor Penning, Northern Iowa, OT
Grade: B- This covers a need for the Saints. They had to do a left tackle and Penning fits. He is an attacking player who will give them a nice combination of tackling with Ryan Ramczyk. They are both molluscs.
20. Steelers: Kenny Pickett, QB, Pittsburgh
Grade A. I love this option. They take the local kid to play general and he will prove to be the best general in this category. Give him some toys and he will have the job. Pickett has the tools to become a quality starter. This works in many ways.
21. Leaders (from the Patriots): Trent McDuffie, CB, Washington
Grade: B- The Chiefs went up to get McDuffie, but I think they could expect to get his teammate, Kyler Gordon, who I think will be a better player. He meets a need in the corner, and he is a good player, but they could have stayed in place.
22. Packers: Quay Walker, LB, Georgia
Grade A. This is a good choice. He is a playmaker, a speed back who will give his defenses a nice complement to De Vondre Campbell. I know they could have gotten the receiver here, but they can wait. Walker will be a great time.
23. Accounts (from Ravens via Cardinals): Kaiir Elam, CB, Florida
Grade: B + He is a good cover player who covers a great need. The Bills had a hole in their team and that was the corner. Now they add a long cover that can give them a nice corner to go with Tre’Davious White. He has to deal better. I love aggression to go get him.
24. Cowboys: Tyler Smith, OT, Tulsa
Grade A. This is one of my favorite choices in this draft. This kid is a villain who will help him get the right tackle right away. He needs some help with pass protection, but the Cowboys will train him. The teams loved him more than the analysts and his tape showed you why. This is a really good choice.
25. Ravens (from Bills): Tyler Linderbaum, C, Iowa
Degree: B They had to get a center and they got the best. I love the idea of taking command in the middle of their line. He will play in front of Lamar Jackson for a long time. His athletic skills are excellent.
26. Jets (by the Titans): Jermaine Johnson II, EDGE, Florida State
Grade A. This is of great value so late in the draft. It fell under the board much farther than most people thought. It matches what Robert Saleh wants at his peak. It blooms slowly, but will continue to improve.
27. Jaguars (by Buccaneers): Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah
Grade: B + They made a bold move to go get him. I like. He is a playmaking linebacker who can do many things. Think of Devin White in the Tampa Bay project. It works. Mike Caldwell will use it in many different ways.
